You've put a substantial investment into your floor with natural or ceramic tile, and now you want to keep it looking its best year round. Unfortunately many people take the time to pick out flooring that is beautiful, however, natural stone and grout come with cleaning challenges that are not always addressed when they're installed. Normally grout has a natural alkaline quality that can be upset by acids - vinegar is a common cleaning chemical, but unfortunately it is an acid which over time can deteriorate the grout. Natural stones have many differing mineral make-ups that create their own challenges as well. Some respond well to alkalines while others respond well to acids. All of them can be cleaned with neutral cleaners (pH 7) for routine maintenance, but when it is time to go for a deep cleaning to restore the floor to its original look, neutral cleaners may not do enough. That's when it is time to call in the professionals who have the tools and knowledge to dig the deepest soil out of the grout.

While we’re there, you’ll also want to protect your floor with either a sealer or an impregnator. Sealers work by covering the floor and making an air-tight seal with the floor, while impregnators work by going inside the pores of both the rock and the grout. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and some work well against water-based contaminants while others work well against oil based contaminants. Before applying one or the other, give us a call to discuss the usage and we will help you the best we can. |
